The PRoGRESS cities have been undertaking the following work:

  • Bristol: Trial of GPS-technology in Bristol assessing distance and cordon based pricing in association with the national government’s DIRECTS initiatives.
  • Copenhagen: A GPS-based pricing trial with 500 volunteer drivers testing several different scenarios.
  • Edinburgh: Examination of ANPR camera enforcement issues, stakeholder consultation and social inclusion issues.
  • Genoa Trial with volunteers prior to a full pricing scheme to protect the historic city centre from high levels of through traffic.
  • Gothenburg: Using GPS-based technology and around 350 volunteers to test pricing scenarios to combat congestion or pollution.
  • Helsinki: A modelling exercise without any pricing trial or implementation.
  • Rome A 23-gate Access Control System with flat-fare road pricing was introduced in the historic city centre and evening charging is being investigated.
  • Trondheim: Extension of the existing road pricing system with a new city centre toll zone.
