Roke Manor Research

A consultancy specialising in image recognition design and evaluation, including automatic number plate recognition and domestic commercial surveillance systems. The Security Applications and Imaging group at Roke Manor Research is experienced in developing applications using image processing and video compression.

Currently developing video and still-image based applications i.e. video postcards and navigation systems that can be incorporated into the very latest mobile telephones and data terminals which are increasingly including colour screens and cameras. This technology can extract information from an image still or sequence. Recently, Roke Manor Research have worked on software access control system, which automatically recognises number plates on vehicles. Amongst other applications, this software can offer a solution to traffic congestion and tolling queues. By automatically extracting the vehicle's number plate as it passes through a toll road, the relevant charges can be made remotely, so there is no need for people to stop and pay manually
